Yes, the time has come when we start to think that the end of summer is here. No need to be sad! We have three great parties you can host quickly before the season ends.

Summer Cocktail Party

watermelon drink There is no better time to host an outdoor summer party than a cool evening. Hang up your market lights, set out your tiki torches and invite friends over for casual evening with summer beverages and light appetizers. Make big batch summer cocktails ahead of time to save crucial social time and sanity. For lighter cocktails we like summer shandy, rainbow sangria, or spiked lemonade. For heavier hitters, try watermelon tequila slushies’, floral old fashions, or Mai Tai’s. Also have local summer beers, or a light summer rosé, on hand for those who may not be into sipping cocktails all evening. Summer nights can still be hot, so serve finger foods that can stand the heat, i.e. not wilt. Fresh appetizers like bruschetta, summer dips, gazpacho shooters, veggie summer Thai rolls, or grilled chicken wings are great for hot summer sips and nibbles.

Labor Day Weekend Gathering

Greek-Turkey-BurgerThe best way to decorate for a Labor Day gathering is to recycle your favorite items from Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, don’t have any? No need to worry! Like the other parties listed here, all you truly need is outdoor space and seating– allow the ease of the summer season to take care of the rest! Give your friends plenty of notice that you are having a party; Labor Day weekend is busy for end-of-summer traveling. Keep the party open house style and ask everyone to come between certain times, as many of us are trying to make the most of the last long summer weekend. Have yard games for kids and adults, and perhaps even one of the above mentioned water features. Light the grill for our summer cooking! Take a break from the usual burgers and serve burgers with more flare like green chili burgers, harissa burgers, or Greek turkey burgers. Over burgers completely? Grill skewered scallops with bacon, steak and chimichurri, or halloumi cheese with bell peppers. Summer brews and light wine are great and easy, however if you’d like to kick it up a notch bust out the punch bowl for guests to pour at will, we love Eureka Tiki Punch; this particular drink also makes a pretty centerpiece. Summer favorites like lemonade and iced tea should be chilled and ready for kids and non-alcoholic drinkers. Say goodbye with summer sweets like ice cream cupcakes, root beer floats, or berries and shortcake. (Psst… Labor Day Weekend is September 3-5.)

Pool Party (No Pool Required)

Summer is all about chilling by the pool, and while most of us do not have a pool in our backyards, many of us have the accessories to transform our yards into a cool water oasis. Bring out everyone’s inner child and bring out berry sundaechildhood favorites; slip and slide, sprinklers, and blow up pools (we like these with seating around them for toe dipping.) Set one, or all of these up in the backyard complete with beach balls, water guns, and sunscreen. Away from the water fun set out no-fuss buckets with brews and sodas for guests to quench their thirst. Food is simple summer fare: burgers and ‘dogs on eco friendly disposable plates and flatware. End the party with ice cream sundaes or nostalgic popsicles.
