For many of us, summer is a nostalgic time of year.  The season conjures up memories from childhood and recent years alike.  Often, the reminiscing revolves around food.  I asked the Serendipity staff what is your favorite food memory of summer? From Italian orchards to mountain campfires, we all have a food that always brings us back to summer:

Sonia (Event Coordinator) – To me, nothing says summer like eating freshly made mozzarella and sipping lemoncello while looking out over the Italy Lemon Orhardsbeautiful coast of Sorrento (Italy). A few summers back, my family took a trip around Italy, and this was one of my favorite memories. We sat in the lemon orchard under the shade of the trees, tasting different variations of their house-made lemoncello, breathing in the salty sweet ocean air. It was perfect!

Funnel Cakes Tara (Service Consultant) –  My favorite summer food memory would be sitting on the beach, eating and slurping perfectly ripe watermelon wedges and spitting the seeds at my little brother when we were kids!

Jamie (Service Consultant) – I remember eating funnel cakes smothered with powdered sugar and hot sauce at Elitches. Our parents had to get my brother and sister all separate one because we refused to share!

Shauna (Senior Event Coordinator) – In my (used to be) small town of Louisville, CO, on the 4th of July, the town would have a big BBQ.  Everyone would come downtown and enjoy free hot dogs and a day free swimming in the city public pool. My sisters and I would look forward to going to the BBQ every year. A fun day of free swimming, BBQ and fireworks!

Delaney (Service Consultant/ Event Coordinator) – Ice-cold watermelon on the summer patio!  A reminder that summer is here!watermelon-pretty1

Dan (Production Manager) – My favorite summer food memory is camping with the Boy Scouts.  The best camp meal was one we called “Pot-o-gold,” which was spaghetti sauce with hamburger, topped with a layer of biscuits, each wrapped around a small cube of cheddar. We would put the Dutch oven on the fire with coals on top and bake it until the biscuits were golden brown.  I’ve made it at home many times since, and it is still a favorite meal, one that has now become a favorite memory among many of my friends.

Kalie (Service Consultant) – Dinners on vacation in Florida with fresh lobster and an unbeatable sunset.

Amanda (Public Relations) – Long summer beach drives along the East Coast stopping for freshly shucked oysters, fried clams, lobster rolls and cold summer beers. Always coming home stuffed and happy!

Laura (Serendipity Co-Owner, along with husband Chef Todd) – Eating dinner in the backyard! My favorite summer food memory is pretty simple and by most standards boring, but I love being at home with my dogs watching the grass grow while we eat dinner outside. The perfect rosé wine paired with a dinner prepared by my husband.  In this case: duck breast with blueberry-port reduction sauce, crispy Brussels sprouts and sautéed mushrooms.

We would love to hear from you!  What is your favorite summer memory?  Post below or reply to [email protected]. Next week we will pick our favorite and feature it in our newsletter and send the winner a Serendipity gift!
