Veterans Memorial Day Tribute | May 26, 2018 | 10 AM -12 PM | POF Hall (1340 Sherman, Denver)
Denver’s annual observance of Memorial Day is held at the historic POF Hall just south of the state capitol and free and open to the public. The 2018 Tribute will feature inspirational music, a Reading of Names, the US Navy Bell Toll, Remembrance Wreath laying for heroes that have died in past wars placed by veteran representatives and presentations of signature Tribute banners and Pins to Gold Star families.

The favorite Memorial Day annual tradition in Boulder boasts over 50,000 participants and spectators for a 10K foot race. The race goes through Boulder’s neighborhoods, finishing in Folsom Field — the University of Colorado‘s football stadium for a Memorial Day Tribute that includes: one of the largest enlistment ceremonies in the state of Colorado, a 21-gun salute by the University of Colorado NROTC members, an F-16 fly-over by the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center from NAS Fallon, NV, Sky divers carrying flags from each branch of military and The Mile-Hi Sky Diving Team performance.

The Boulder Creek Festival has been the unofficial kickoff to summer in Boulder. The Festival is free to the public and features 9 separate event areas with 500 vendors (from everything from community arts and crafts to healthier alternatives and technology) and 3 performance stages of music and dance. The festival also features carnival rides and food and beverage vendors.
A Salute to Our Cold War Veterans | May 26-28 2018 | Various Times | The Veterans Plaza of Northern Colorado The Memorial Day events at The Veterans Plaza of Northern Colorado are some of the most notable in the region. This year they’re honoring Cold War veterans with events throughout the weekend. The official ceremony is on Sunday at 10 a.m. in the plaza and will feature displays set up by veteran-oriented organizations. Highlights include the WWII reenactors and the Colorado Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter. Memorial Day will be a day of solitude the Veterans Plaza which will be open from 7 a.m. – 11 p.m.

80’s Fest Colorado is a full day of themed fun in Johnstown. For 2018, the lineup includes live music, the 80’s Rock vs Pop 5K Run/Walk, an 80’s parade and costume contest, food and beer!

One of the state’s largest craft vendor fairs is highlighted with features including pony rides, kids play area, petting zoo, Cowboy Church Service, toy train rides, gold panning, wild west gunfight re-enactments, live blacksmithing, period costumed characters, live birds of prey, native American dancers and two beer gardens with live music running all three days.

Memorial Day is also the unofficial kick off into summer (although summer does not technically begin until June 21st)! Ditch the traffic and unpredictable/booked out campgrounds by hosting your own Memorial Day Backyard BBQ for your pre-summer celebration.
Heat grill to medium-high. In a large bowl, combine ground beef and Worcestershire and season with salt and pepper. Form into 4 patties. Grill patties, pineapple, and red onion until charred, 3 minutes per side. Top burger patties with pepper jack and cover grill to let melt, 1 minute. Top bottom pineapple buns with lettuce, burger patties, bacon, and grilled onions, then top with pineapple bun.
1 pint fresh strawberries
1 pint fresh blueberries
1 fresh blackberries
1/4 cup sugar
1 pint heavy whipping cream
Slice strawberries and combine in a bowl with blue and/or blackberries. Sprinkle berries with two teaspoons sugar. Whip cream until soft peaks form and sweeten with remaining sugar. Serve berries in small cups with generous spoonfuls of fresh whipped cream.
